Marisa, a recently retired doctor, decides to leave everything and travel to a refugee camp in Greece, where they seem to need people exactly like her. Upon her arrival, she discovers a reality that she could never have imagined and which leads her to explore the boundaries between love and the need to feel useful.

Nely Reguera (Barcelona, Spain) graduated from ESCAC. After a time working as assistant director, in 2009 she directed the short film “Pablo”, selected and awarded at festivals such as Alcine, Gijón, Huesca, Mecal or the Versión Española- SGAE Contest.
Her debut feature “Maria (and the Others)” premiered at the 2016 San Sebastian Film Festival (Special Jury Mention – New Directors). It won the Best Ibero-American Feature Film Award at Miami Film Festival and it obtained two Goya nominations (Best New Director and Best Actress).
“The Volunteer” is her second feature.
